Every year when fall starts approaching, I have mixed feelings. I love the colors and the cooler temperatures, but I am also not a fan of what I know is next to come. It is a bittersweet time. I love to garden and work outdoors, but by the end of the summer and beginning of fall, I am exhausted from trying to work inside & out. I generally welcome the focus on the inside for a couple of months.
As the year starts coming to an end, there are celebrations, but there is also sadness. A whole year has come and gone in what seems to be moments. How many of us had made New Year’s resolutions only to forget about them by the end of January and remember them again at the end of the year? There are always so many things I want to do and learn and achieve, but unless I put down goals on paper and break them into actionable steps, I will never achieve what I am wanting to accomplish.
This January, my ONLY resolution is to become more goal-minded and work on specific projects within specific time frames while breaking it down into steps that include time frames. In other words, to become organized and efficient in goal-setting. My worst enemy when establishing goals is determining timeframe. I can say in no uncertain terms that I am TERRIBLE at that part! I always think things are going to magically get done within an unrealistic timeframe that I came up with off the top of my head, only to get frustrated because it can’t possibly be done that quickly and then lose interest and throw my hands in the air.
Ok, I lied, maybe I have one more resolution for 2023…it’s more of development of a habit than a resolution…I would like to make sure that I am PRESENT IN THE MOMENT of anything that I am doing. We take so many things for granted and enjoying the moments of our lives is one part we need to work on. Every moment that passes will never be here again, so we need to appreciate them for what they are. We need to enjoy the moments with ourselves, our families & friends, our pets, nature and anything else that makes up our universe. Not every moment has to be happy. Some will be sad, some angry, some impatient, but they are just a moment in time and we should just respect them for what they are.
So…this is what I will be working on for 2023 and I hope this helps my focus as well as fills my heart with all the beauty of moments to come for as long as I’m graced to walk the earth. What do you want to focus on in 2023??
